The Girls Cross Country Team, coached by Head Coach Chris Faroni, is setting high goals this year. Senior captain Julia Newman states that “our team goal is to return back to Regionals and back to States, but we also have our own individual goals. Everyone has three to five individual goals that then feed into our team goals.” For example, “a team goal is to help other teammates achieve those goals”. Last year, the girls cross country team one districts and qualified for the regional meet, which is the next step to states. This year, the Girls team plans to “follow the same progression”, as Newman words it. Newman is excited about “Honestly, everyone. We have freshmen who are really excited to run. The sophomores and juniors have gone to regionals with us, so they all know what it’s like.” The three seniors this year are Julia Newman, co-captain Adele Metres, and Jocelyn Chin. Runners like reigning state champion Ella Gilson, and Juliana Metz, who placed thirteenth at the state meet, are eager to take the Hawken Girls team far this year.
