A Race to the Finish Line

The Boys Cross Country team is coached by Head Coach Jessica Lariccia and Assistant Coach Jim Faroni. Rebuilding from the graduation of twelve seniors, the boys cross country team is hopeful in their youth this year. Assistant Coach Jim Faroni says that “since this year’s cross country team is relatively young with a few juniors and seniors, we’re just trying to get everybody to improve their times over the season and increase their season [personal records]. And those that are older runners, try to get them to set new personal records running the 5K race. Almost every Saturday from late August to mid-October, the boys run a 5000 kilometer, or 3.1 mile, race at venues called “meets”. Meets are usually held at high schools around the region, with Hawken boasting one home meet per year. Points are tallied based on the finishing placements of the first five to six runners on a varsity team of seven to nine runners (the number tallied runners depend on the specific meet rules) to finish on a varsity team. One promising younger runner is sophomore David Hamilton, who boasts times in the seventeen minutes. Tim Dang, the senior captain, is also another runner to watch out for.
