Rushing towards the post season
The Hawken Football Team has had a solid start to the 2019 season showing lots of promising future stars. With 8 returning starters to the team this year, the veterans will be able to easily integrate the new players into Hawken’s football culture. Senior Will Lindsey and Junior Cooper Jared have stated that the new team is hungry for victory this year. The Hawks lost their first game of the season to Trinity, with a score of 48 to 20. Not all was gloomy that day as the fans got a glance at the future of Hawken football. Freshman Dominic Johnson proved to be an elite dual-threat running back with 109 rushing yards, 98 receiving yards, and 2 touchdowns. Sophomore quarterback, Terrence Robinson, also threw for 207 yards and 3 touchdowns on 22 completions out of 41 attempts. The team is quite undermanned this year with just above 20 players, yet this situation has not turned out to be a problem as the Hawks bounced back with a win in their home opener last Friday (9/6). Hawken beat Newbury 40-14 as Dominic Johnson set a new school record with a 96-yard rushing touchdown. Come out to support the Hawks this Saturday (9/14) at 2 P.M. as they face Gilmour at an away matchup!
