Player Profile: Makayla White
As a sophomore, Makayla White has made tremendous contributions to the Hawken Girls Basketball team. White is a 5'7" power forward, who averages 14 points, 7.9 rebounds, and1.5 steals per game. David Murray, Jim Koelliker, Don Drockton, and Terrina Robinson coach the current girls basketball team who has found incredible success this year. There are five returning seniors on the team: Violet Giglio, Jocelyn Chin, Sidney Kuri-Poor, Kiera Oyen, and Jordan Kutash. The Hawks overall record is 8-4, and currently 5-1 in the CVC conference, one of the best performances in the past couple years. White expresses that “the team has improved immensely from previous years, and the upcoming seasons are even brighter. Most of Varsity is young with the starting five usually consisting of four sophomores and a senior or junior.” White has immense goals for the team and for herself. As a freshman, White obtained all-district, 1st team CVC, and participated in the All-star game. White aspires to receive these accolades again this season. For the team, White hopes that they can set their record as high as they can in order to obtain a higher seed in the playoffs. With two more years left as a Hawk, White continues to display her abilities in all three of her sports. She plays volleyball in the fall, basketball in the winter, and track in the spring. While playing three sports can be difficult, Whites tries to “zero in on the sport that I’m in at the moment and not worry about the next season too much. Right now, I’m all basketball all the time.”
